Visa & Passport Requirements:

Passport: U.S. citizens must have a valid passport for at least six months beyond the planned departure date to enter Colombia.

Visa: U.S. tourists in Colombia do not need a visa for 90 days or less.


Before entering the immigration control posts, Please fill out the 'Check-Mig' pre-registration, which can be found on the website https://apps.migracioncolombia.gov.co/pre-registro/en . This can be done 24 hours in advance and up to 1 hour before the trip.

Currency & Payment Options

Currency: The official currency is the Colombian peso (COP). Please check the exchange rate before traveling.

Currency Exchange: U.S. dollars are not widely accepted in Cartagena, so exchange your money at currency exchange booths or ATMs.

ATMs: ATMs are available throughout the city. Please let your bank know your travel dates to avoid card freezes. Most major hotels, restaurants, and shops in Cartagena accept Visa, MasterCard, and American Express. However, always check with your bank about foreign transaction fees.

Transportation in cartagena

Airport Transfers: After choosing a Hotel for your stay, we recommend checking with them to see if they offer shuttle services. Many hotels in Cartagena do!

Taxi & Uber: Taxis are also available at the airport and throughout Cartagena. Ubers also operate in Cartagena for more convenience.

Emergency Numbers: Dial 123 for police or medical emergencies in Colombia.

Prescription Medications: Carry any prescription medication in its original packaging with a copy of the prescription to avoid issues at customs.
